A Message from our President

Registration rates are on the rise! More kids are on the ice and registration numbers are up both North and South of the border. USA Hockey recently achieved a huge milestone set only a few short years ago; 104,000 kids registered in the 4-8 year old category. On a similar note, Hockey Canada can boast an increase of more than 25,000 kids in the same age group over the last 2 seasons. Remarkable achievements in a very short period of time!

By increasing the number of youngsters that play the game, everyone wins - especially the kids. We hear this from parents that encourage and support their children's participation in our OneGoal Try Hockey events. The fun and excitement experienced on the ice combined with the positive aspects of the game make playing hockey a winning combination. In today's environment, much is discussed in the media about pro and elite hockey that is not always positive for the sport. Given this, it is important that OneGoal continue to focus on a simple message to kids and their parents; hockey is fun, hockey is healthy and hockey teaches you a lot about life. We think the sport of hockey is an important vitamin that needs to be a part of every kids diet - Vitamin H!

OneGoal's formula for success focuses on the 3 pillars of our foundation's efforts: "Facilitate"- getting kids on the ice, “Educate”- kids and parents on how to find and join hockey and "Stimulate"- promote the positive aspects of the game. .

OneGoal U.S Outreach Committee Update

The US Outreach Committee had a tremendous 2010 by focusing on promoting the OneGoal Equipment Program and delivering successful Try Hockey events. These major efforts helped deliver some very exciting news and a record year for USA Hockey as they announced that membership in their eight year old and under age category surpassed 100,000 players for the 2010-11 season. This is the first time in the history of USA Hockey that they have reached this milestone!

The OneGoal U.S Outreach Committee and USA Hockey organized eight market blitzes across the U.S. in 2010 bringing a total of 3,273 new kids to the game throughout the 127 host sites.

The Try Hockey formula has proven to be extremely effective and will remain at the core of the U.S. Outreach efforts for 2011.

The first event planned for 2011 will be "Hockey Day in Georgia" with the support of the Atlanta Thrashers and the Southern Amateur Hockey Association. The event is taking place on Saturday, April 9th. Other locations will be announced shortly.

OneGoal Canadian Outreach Committee Update

The Canadian Outreach Committee also had a busy 2010. On top of attending various industry functions to help promote our mission of growing the game like the Molson Canadian World Hockey Summit and Source for Sports Show, the committee provided support to programs in London, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec through the “Stride and Glide” and Montreal Canadiens "Bleu, Blanc, Rouge" initiatives. Furthermore, OneGoal was honored to be invited to participate in this year's Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada, in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada, in Whitehorse, Yukon. The OneGoal Whitehorse Try Hockey Event was a tremendous success for all involved. With the support of local volunteers, the Toronto Maple Leafs, OneGoal's Equipment program and the Whitehorse Minor Hockey Association, 50 kids, all brand new to hockey, had the chance to get on the ice and learn to play alongside former NHL stars- for free!

In collaboration with CBC, OneGoal's message was spread through TV and radio interviews with a featured segment on OneGoal and our Executive Director, Bill Hattem. OneGoal commercials played throughout the day on CBC.

Whitehorse Minor Hockey is planning to continue these vents in the years to come, given the tremendous success they experienced this year.

OneGoal Female Outreach Committee Update

Under Manon Rhéaume's leadership and passion for growing the
the game, the Female Outreach Committee hosted two extremely successful Try Hockey events in O'Leary, PEI and Grande Prairie, AB.

The O'Leary event had 30 girls come out to Try Hockey For Free. The event served to kick start an ongoing after school program to encourage others to join! "We've organized an After School Girls Hockey Program for Kindergarten to Grade 6 with 20 girls, all brand new to hockey, preregistered. This is a direct result of the OneGoal contribution to our community and is very exciting."
- Jo Ann Wallace O'Leary, PEI.

Meanwhile over in Grande Prairie, 47 girls participated in the Try Hockey event which resulted in the association having enough girls to put together an all female team for the first time ever! "I have to tell you that our event was a smashing success! Through this program, GPMHA was able to ice a full Initiation team of 5 & 6 year old girls this season!"
- Lorna LeBlanc, Grande Prairie Minor Hockey
